Etwa durch Größe, wie die "Boeing 747", durch Schnelligkeit wie die "Concorde", durch Innovation wie die "Junkers F 13", durch Schönheit wie die "Lockheed Constellation" oder durch militärische Einsatzmöglichkeiten wie der "Starfighter". Die Maschinen werden vom bekannten Luftfahrthistoriker Borgmann ("Ikonen der Luftfahrt", ID-A 5/16, mit Flugzeugtypen!) kenntnisreich porträtiert, illustriert durch zahlreiche Ganz- und Detailfotos von ordentlicher Wiedergabequalität. Dazu kommen Übersichten mit wichtigen Daten. Das Werk ist nicht so umfassend wie N. Andrup: "Meilensteine der Luftfahrt" (ID-A 10/15) oder der bescheidener aufgemachte, aber informative M. Dörflinger: "333 Flugzeuge, die man kennen muss", ID-A 1/16), bietet aber auch angesichts der haltbaren Aufmachung einen guten Gegenwert fürs Geld. Es ist neben der Vergleichsliteratur für viele Luftfahrtbestände geeignet.
