Das Leben im Maghreb ist stark geprägt von Träumen und Absenzen, die mit den Träumen zusammenhängen. Der europäische Norden lockt mit seinen Verheissungen, die er für die wenigsten einhalten kann. Yasmine Kassari hat in ihrem Film "Quand les hommes pleurent" marokkanische Männer im nahen spanischen Arbeitsexil porträtiert und sich dabei zunehmend die Frage gestellt: Und was ist mit den zurückgelassenen Frauen? Sie hat sich zur Beantwortung für eine Spielfilmgeschichte entschieden, denn sie konnte anhand eines Brauches sinnbildlich stark die Situation der Frauen beschreiben. Was sie interessierte war weniger die anthropologische Lektüre des Mythos vom eingeschlafenen Fötus im Bauch seiner Mutter als vielmehr der metaphorische Gehalt. Und genau dies schafft sie auch auf einfühlsame Weise mit ihrem Film, in dem wir eine sorgsame Annäherung ans Frauenleben im Marokko von heute zu sehen bekommen mit der vorzüglichen Kameraarbeit von Giorgos Arvanitis. Seine Bilder sind von einer Diskretion getragen, die für den fragilen Stoff entscheidend ist. Denn letztlich geht es um etwas, was nicht wirklich sichtbar ist. "L'enfant endormi" führt uns im besten Sinn hinein in eine nahe und in eine andere Welt. (Trigon)
