Das kulturelle Gedächtnis ist die Basis der menschlichen Zukunft. Dabei übernehmen Künste und Kulturinstitutionen eine entscheidende Rolle. Die Auseinandersetzung mit Erinnerung und Gedächtnisspeichern ist zentraler Gegenstand aktueller künstlerischer Praxis: Künstler*innen befragen Archive, überdenken Auswahlprozesse, tasten Lücken im Depot ab und erstellen eigene Archive gegen das Vergessen. Denn das Gedächtnis ist ein umkämpftes Feld: Inmitten der aktuellen Dynamik von digitalem Wandel, rechten und nationalistischen Erzählungen, postkolonialen Debatten um historische Verantwortung sowie dem Ringen um Nachhaltigkeit und Diversität gilt es, tradierte Wissens- und Erinnerungsräume zu verteidigen und zugleich neu zu bewerten. Die Ausstellung „Arbeit am Gedächtnis – Transforming Archives“ beleuchtet verschiedene Aspekte der Erinnerungskultur mit 13 Auftragsarbeiten zeitgenössischer Künstler*innen und 15 exemplarisch ausgewählten Exponaten aus dem Archiv der Akademie der Künste.
