Die US-amerikanische Psychotherapeutin möchte Frauen dabei helfen, "gefährliche" Männer frühzeitig zu erkennen, um sich gar nicht erst auf sie einzulassen oder die Beziehung zu beenden, so lange dies noch ohne größere Probleme möglich ist. Sie ist davon überzeugt, dass die meisten Frauen durchaus Warnsignale wahrnehmen, diese jedoch aus verschiedenen Gründen ignorieren oder verdrängen. Zu den gefährlichen Männern gehören für sie nicht nur gewalttätige und misshandelnde, sondern z.B. auch "emotional nicht verfügbare", psychisch kranke und süchtige Männer. Insgesamt 8 Männertypen von der "Klette" über "das ewige Kind" bis zum "heimlichen Räuber" ist jeweils ein Kapitel gewidmet, in dem Brown nicht nur deren typische Verhaltensweisen beschreibt und Fallbeispiele schildert, sondern auch darstellt, welche Frauen besonders gefährdet sind und welche "Verteidigungsstrategien" hilfreich sein können. Auch wenn einige Ausdrücke (eventuell übersetzungsbedingt) merkwürdig klingen, alles in allem neben dem eher unterhaltsamen "Scheißkerle" von R.M. Koidl (BA 6/10) überall einsetzbar. (2)
