Diese umfassende Einführung liegt zum ersten Mal in deutscher Bearbeitung vor. Das Hochschullehrbuch wartet bewusst mit einem sehr niedrigen Einstiegsniveau auf (vgl. auch D. C. Giancoli: "Physik" in dieser Nr.). Es soll die "moderne Chemie in ihrer ganzen Breite und in einfacher Form" vermitteln, ist deshalb auch bereits für Schüler der Sekundarstufe II von Interesse, nicht zuletzt auch wegen der durchgehend farbigen Ausstattung mit Abbildungen, Infografiken und zahlreichen Feature-Kästen. Gut auch die voranstehende Disposition der Lernziele und die am Kapitelende nach Abschnitten und Schlüsselbegriffen gegliederte Zusammenfassung. Viele Aufgaben, teilweise mit Lösungen, auch zu den Verständnisfragen, im Anhang. Neben dem wesentlich weniger attraktiven und nicht ganz so breit angelegten "Chemie : Grundwissen für Ingenieure" (BA 12/06), vor dem Spektrum-Lehrbuch "Allgemeine und anorganische Chemie" (ID 12/04), das für Studierende mit Hauptfach Chemie konzipiert ist.
