Toffi ist ein kleiner Junge, der gerade in die Schule kommt. Eigentlich heißt er Christoph, aber alle, die ihn gern haben, sagen Toffi zu ihm, und das findet er auch viel netter. Er will auf keinen anderen Namen hören, ehe er richtig erwachsen ist. Sein Freund, der Meier-Willi, ist schon ein bißchen älter und kommt sich sehr viel gescheiter vor. Zur Schule geht er freilich nicht gern, und er versucht, Toffi einzureden, da sei es gar nicht schön. Doch Toffi gefällt der erste Schultag gut, noch dazu, wo es eine so herrliche mit Sternen beklebte Zuckertüte gibt! Leider wird seine Freude bald getrübt: Die anderen Kinder verstehen nicht, weshalb er mit der linken Hand malt und schreibt, sie necken ihn ständig und taufen ihn "Linkepatsch". Nur ein kleines Mädchen hält zu ihm - ein kleines Mädchen mit einer großen Brille. Das wäre eine Freundin für ihn! Aber die kleine Regine ist plötzlich wie vom Erdboden verschwunden. Toffi grämt sich sehr und sucht unter den vielen Schulkinder beharrlich nur nach dem einen, mit dem er so gerne zusammen sein möchte, und nach mancherlei bedenklichen Abenteuern kommen die beiden endlich zueinander. Was es mit dem kleinen Auto auf sich hat, das wird nicht verraten, und auch die spannenden Geschichten, die Toffis Vater oder Mutter abends vor dem Schlafengehen erzählen (oder die alle drei manchmal gemeinsam erfinden!) - die müßt ihr selber lesen...
