Die ehemalige Künstlerkolonie Kleinmachnow wurde ab dem 13. August 1961 zu einem der Schauplätze des Kalten Krieges. Der idyllische Ort am südlichen Berliner Stadtrand lag plötzlich im deutsch-deutschen Grenzgebiet, komplett abgeschnitten von Westberlin. Georg Heinze, 1938 in Niederschlesien geboren, lebt seit über 50 Jahren in Kleinmachnow. Den Großteil seiner beruflichen Laufbahn hat er als Gärtner bei der Kleinmachnower GPG „Alpina“ gearbeitet. In dieser Zeit entstanden seine fotografischen Zeitdokumente und Aufnahmen der innerdeutschen Grenzanlagen in und um Kleinmachnow. Der Autor erinnert an die Zeit im Hinterland, beschützt und zugleich eingesperrt. Seine Bilder verdeutlichen die Brutalität der Grenzbauten, die Ohnmacht und das Ausgeliefertsein. Sie zeigen den Aufbruch, den Wandel und das, was übrig blieb. Mit diesem Buch gelingt Georg Heinze die Verbindung von authentischer Bilddokumentation mit persönlichen Erinnerungen und Erlebnissen.
