Das Museum für Vor- und Frühgeschichte in Berlin hat dieses Buch herausgegeben, und es wirkt auch ein bisschen so, als betrete man mit jedem neuen Kapitel einen neuen Ausstellungsraum. Die chronologische Aufteilung von der Altsteinzeit bis zur Eisenzeit liefert eine klare logische Struktur - quasi den Rundweg durch die Räume - die Tatsache, dass die Gegend immer die gleiche ist, deren Veränderung auf dem Einfluss des Menschen beruht, verstärkt den Effekt noch. Die recht ausführlichen Sachtexte auf der Hauptseite sind fundiert, verständlich formuliert und eine wahre Fundgrube an Informationen. Die vielen Bilder auf der jeweiligen Folgeseite sind anschaulich, treten neben dem Text aber deutlich zurück. Es gibt viel freie Fläche zwischen den Detailabbildungen - auch hier wieder der deutliche Bezug zu Vitrinen in Museen - was das Betrachten und Lesen der wie Hinweistafeln wirkenden Beschreibungen angenehm kurzweilig macht.
