"Die Deutschen fehlen so selten wegen Krankheit am Arbeitsplatz wie nie zuvor und sind damit die gesündesten Europäer" meldet die Süddeutsche Zeitung am 19.04.2006 und beruft sich dabei auf die Zahlen des jährlichen BKK Gesundheitsreports, der einen "neuen historischen Tiefstand seit Beginn der BKK Statistik (1976)" (BKK Bundesverband 2005, S. 8) konstatiert. Die Lohn(nebenkosten) zahlenden Unternehmen deuten diese Entwicklung ex-post als empirische Bestätigung ihres Verdachts, dass "auf Kosten des solidarischen Gesundheitssystems" - gemeint sind damit die Unternehmen selbst - immer schon zu viel "Blau gemacht" wurde. Dagegen lehnen Gesundheitsforscher die nahe liegende Schlussfolgerung ab, aus diesem "Rekord im Durchhalten" (Schiegl 2006, S. 22) einen Indikator dafür zu machen, dass die Arbeitsbevölkerung tatsächlich insgesamt auch weniger krank bzw. gesünder ist. Im Gegenteil, denn viele können sich krankheitsbedingte Ausfälle vor dem Hintergrund der aktuellen Arbeitsmarktlage offenbar nicht (mehr) leisten und arbeiten auch in einer körperlichen Verfassung, mit der sie früher eher einen Arzt aufgesucht hätten.
