Sergiu Celibidache (1912-1996) war rumänischer Dirigent mit deutschem Pass. Celibidache arbeitet mit den Berliner Philharmonikern und mit einer ganzen Reihe von Orchestern in Südamerika, Stockholm, Italien und Paris. Von 1972 bis 1977 übernahm er die Leitung des Radio-Sinfonieorchesters Stuttgart, später war er Generalmusikdirektor der Münchner Philharmoniker. Celibidache war ein Mensch der Extreme. Nichts hasste er mehr als Gleichgültigkeit und Mittelmaß, vor allem bei sich selbst aber auch bei seinen Mitmenschen, an die er die höchsten Ansprüche stellte. Norbert Busès Dokumentarfilm ist ein bewegendes Porträt über den legendären Dirigenten, der es womöglich mehr als jeder andere verstand, Theorie und Leidenschaft, Rücksichtslosigkeit und Sympathie miteinander zu verbinden, um den Menschen die Musik näherzubringen.
