Concertos violin, cello, orchestra op. 102 arranged Passacaille A minor
Content:
The young musicians of the Verbier Festival Orchestra in a 100% Brahms programme, accompanied by their music director and three other regular guests of the festival! This programme gathers two milestones of the 2012 Verbier Festival. The first one was taken from the opening concert of the festival, whereas the second one was part of the closing concert. Was it fate or an artistic desire? Both were featuring works by Johannes Brahms, performed by the Verbier Festival Orchestra. Here you can watch again the performances of the Capuçon brothers and Charles Dutoit (interpreting the Double Concerto), as well as Manfred Honeck leading the orchestra in an outstanding version of the Fourth Symphony. The Capuçon might very well be the most famous brothers on the French classical scene. Renaud and Gautier play together the Brahms Concerto for violin and cello, a true masterpiece, Brahms' last symphonic score, a really bold one for his era. They are accompanied by the Verbier Festival Orchestra, under the baton of their music director Charles Dutoit. A former violinist, Manfred Honeck was Claudio Abbado's assistant at the Gustav Mahler Orchestra, before he received the prestigious European Conductor's prize in 1993 and he was then appointed music director of the Staatsoper Stuttgart -- a position he held from 2007 to 2011. He is a regular guest at the Verbier Festival. These concerts were broadcast live on medici.tv on July 20 and August 5, 2012
