Viele Experimente der Hirnforschung haben nur eine beschränkte Aussagekraft und viele Erkenntnisse der Neurowissenschaften sind bei näherem Hinsehen nicht gesichert; auch gibt es zu wichtigen Themen wie Willensfreiheit, Menschenbild und Lernen in der Schule lediglich widersprüchliche und nicht weiterhelfende Konzepte, Theorien und Ansätze, stellt Caspary (vgl. auch "Nur wer Fehler macht, kommt weiter", ID 15/08) fest. Seine Einschätzung belegt der Wissenschaftsjournalist ausführlich und im Einzelnen; als Gegengewicht und um den Neurowissenschaften ihre Grenzen aufzuzeigen, plädiert er für eine starke Kulturwissenschaft und für eine selbstbewusste Pädagogik. Eine kritische, manchmal polemische, immer aber auch für Laien gut lesbare Kommentierung; ergänzend empfohlen zu den zahlreichen weniger skeptischen Berichte über das, was die Neurowissenschaften bisher über unser Gehirn herausgefunden haben (vgl. zuletzt Michael Madeja, BA 5/10).
