Dass sich Astronomie und Musik aufs Beste vertragen, davon zeugt Gustav Holsts Kultstück "Die Planeten". Mit viel Imaginationskraft charakterisieren die Klänge für groß besetztes Orchester sieben Sterne unseres Sonnensystems: Mars, Venus, Saturn, Merkur, Jupiter, Uranus und Neptun. Weltraum assoziiert man auch mit Richard Strauss' Also sprach Zarathustra: Das Werk war nicht nur bei der Fernsehübertragung der ersten Mondlandung zu hören, sondern auch in Stanley Kubricks Film "2001: A Space Odyssey", der 1968 herauskam. Auch Elvis ließ bei seinen letzten Konzerten sein Erscheinen auf der Bühne mit diesen Klängen ankündigen.
