Die 1892 eröffnete „Zwangsarbeitsanstalt zu St. Georg“ war ein Ort der Verwahrung, Ausgrenzung und Disziplinierung gesellschaftlicher Außenseiter. Während des Nationalsozialismus wurden mindestens 76 Insassen Opfer der „Euthanasie“. Außerdem wurde ein Sammellager zur Deportation von Juden, Sinti und Roma eingerichtet und die Arbeitsanstalt diente als Drehscheibe ziviler Zwangsarbeit in Leipzig. In der DDR wurde die bauliche Infrastruktur weitergenutzt: Hier befand sich eine Außenstelle der Psychiatrie und eine geschlossene Venerologische Station. Der Band versammelt Beiträge, die Schlaglichter auf die Geschichte des Ortes werfen, nach Mustern und Brüchen des Umgangs mit „Randgruppen“ fragen und erinnerungskulturelle Perspektiven formulieren.
