Der Zoologe Luiz, der in Brasilien aufwuchs, lebt mit seiner jüdischen Frau und den zwei gemeinsamen Kindern in Tel Aviv, will aber weg aus Israel, weil er den politischen Wahnsinn im Land nicht mehr erträgt. „Hannah Dübgen, Jahrgang 1977, hat für ihr Debüt den Förderpreis Literatur der Stadt Düsseldorf bekommen, weil sie durch die Kunst besteche "mehrere Handlungsstränge mit unterschiedlichen Protagonisten zu verknüpfen". Sie erreicht die immer dichtere Verknüpfung und Verwebung der ansonsten parallel verlaufenden Handlungsstränge zumeist durch Nebenfiguren: Jasons japanische Freundin Mia outet sich bald als Cousine der Pianistin Makiko, der Palästinenser Salim spielt eine Rolle in Ada und Judiths Film und zugleich im Leben des Zoologen Luiz und so weiter und so fort. In einem Interview gibt Dübgen an, dass der Episodenfilm "Babel" (2006) von Regisseur Alejandro González Iñárritu sie auf die Idee zu dieser Verwebung der disparaten Geschichten gebracht habe. Der Kausalnexus indes, der in Form des japanischen Jagdgewehrs die total disparaten Filmfiguren zu einer fatalen Schicksalsgemeinschaft verknüpft, fehlt in Dübgens Roman. Ihre Figuren versammeln sich beim Konzert aber werden danach weiter ihr ureigenes, nicht durch die anderen beeinträchtigtes Leben führen“ (br.de)
