À Mons et en Cœur du Hainaut, le Guide d'architecture moderne et contemporaine invite à regarder l'architecture autrement, et ce au travers d'une sélection de 300 projets, illustrés de plans et situés sur cartes, commentés par plus de 40 auteurs et photographiés par Olivier Cornil. Ces projets - répartis sur un territoire de 25 communes - sont le fruit de la modernité revisitée à chaque époque par les architectes, de l'Art nouveau à aujourd'hui : programmes modestes ou réalisations d'envergure, commandes privées et bâtiments publics. Le Guide d'architecture moderne et contemporaine Mons & Cœur du Hainaut est dirigé par Lamya Ben Djaffar, historienne, chargée de la politique d'intégration d'œuvres d'art et de la diffusion et promotion culturelles à la Cellule architecture de la Fédération Wallonie-Bruxelles, et Isabelle De Smet, architecte, doctorante en art de bâtir et urbanisme à la Faculté d'architecture et d'urbanisme de l'Université de Mons. Après la parution du volume consacré à Liège et ses environs, ce deuxième opus sortira en avril 2015 dans le cadre de "Mons, capitale européenne de la Culture". Le territoire Mons & Cœur du Hainaut comprend les communes d'Anderlues, Binche, Boussu, Braine-le-Comte, Chapelle-lez-Herlaimont, Colfontaine, Dour, Écaussines, Estinnes, Frameries, Hensies, Honnelles, Jurbise, La Louvière, Lens, Le Roeulx, Manage, Mons, Morlanwelz, Quaregnon, Quévy, Quiévrain, Saint-Ghislain, Seneffe, Soignies.
