Content:
Madeleine, the mother, and Catherine, the daughter, were members of the aristocracy of Poitiers, not very wealthy, but well educated. Both wrote verse, be it sonnets on destiny (Madeleine, among her purest achievements), or moralistic dialogues in a neo-platonic mode (Catherine). Both were deeply aware of the special reputation their writing gave them as women. Very fond of each other, they mutually celebrated their gift, held together... and practically died together. This book will be a real discovery for lovers of French baroque verse.
