Ein Überblick über den Inhalt zu Beginn und ein Register am Ende helfen, sich im Buch zurechtzufinden. Das ist hier nötig. Beginnend mit einer Erklärung zum Begriff "Evolution" folgt eine geologische Zeitskala, in der sich das Leben einer Ära zuordnen lässt. Im Folgenden machen Fossilien den Anfang, gefolgt von den ersten Tieren. Pro Seite werden ca. 5 Tiere genannt. Die Seiten sind hierbei nicht nach Ära geordnet, sondern nach Themen. Die Tiere werden in einer kurzen Beschreibung der Ära zugeordnet. Auf einigen Seiten, nicht immer, folgen Beispiele zu unseren heutigen Tieren. Leser sollten schon geübt sein.
