Using footage from test flights, stills and a script curated from material from Garnaev's journals, the film tells the story of Garnaev's working life from childhood to death. Includes old footage of a 1930s Russian Aeroclub, as well as the testing of fighter jet and helicopter ejectors seats, a vertical take-off aircraft, experiments in weightlessness for space exploration, air displays and Italo Donati's fatal crash at the Paris International Airshow in 1965. The film concludes with shots of the large MI6 helicopter whose crew included Garnaev, and which crashed whilst being used to put out forest fires in Southern France in 1967
