Verlagsinfo: Herzog Georg zu Braunschweig-Lüneburg (1582-1641) gehört zu den wirkungsmächtigsten Herrschern des Welfenhauses. Im 17. Jahrhundert trat der Welfenspross Georg zunehmend in das Rampenlicht der Geschichte Norddeutschlands. Der Prinz und spätere Herzog war mit Anna Eleonore (1601-1659) Prinzessin von Hessen-Darmstadt verheiratet. Er verstand es mit diplomatischem Fingerspitzengefühl sowie während des Dreissigjährigen Krieges insbesondere durch häufiges Wechseln der militärischen Bündnisse seine eigene Position sowie die seines Hauses zu stärken. Im Gegensatz zu seinen sechs Brüdern galt Georg als weltläufig und verfügte über hervorragende Kontakte zu den wichtigsten politischen und militärischen Akteuren seiner Epoche. So stand er in Korrespondenz unter anderem mit den skandinavischen Monarchen Christian IV. von Dänemark und Gustav II. Adolf von Schweden, aber auch mit Kaiser Ferdinand II. und dem kaiserlichen Generalissimus Albrecht von Wallenstein
