"Ende Juni 1960 wurde Patrice Lumumba zum ersten Premierminister der eben in die Unabhängigkeit entlassenen Republik Kongo gewählt. Trotz seiner charismatischen Persönlichkeit gelang es ihm nicht, die widerstrebenden Gruppen des Landes zu versöhnen. Zwei Monate später wurde er abgesetzt und am 17. Januar 1961 unter Mithilfe belgischer Kolonialtruppen ermordet.
