Nach ihrer Einspielung der populären Misa Criolla von Ariel Ramírez (IN-1 24/14, StO mini, ekz-Nr. 763.445.3) widmen sich Eduardo Egüez und das Ensemble La Chimera erneut der Anden-Region, deren musikalische Traditionen in die Messe eingeflossen waren. "Gracias a la vida" enthält neben einigen traditionellen Stücken komponierte Musik aus Peru, Bolivien, Paraguay, Chile und Argentinien vom 16. Jahrhundert bis zur Gegenwart, in der immer auch die Folklore der Region mitschwingt. Zu den Singstimmen gesellen sich neben den üblichen Streichinstrumenten gelegentlich auch Andenflöten, Charango (ein kleines Zupfinstrument aus dem bolivianischen Hochland), Harfe, Laute und Gitarre. Im informativen Beiheft (leider nur in Englisch, Französisch und Spanisch) sind auch alle Gesangstexte enthalten. Der Titel bezieht sich auf Violeta Parras gleichnamiges Lied, das auch auf dieser abwechslungsreichen und sehr empfehlenswerten Einspielung zu hören ist.
