Unter dem plakativ übertreibenden Titel "I paid Hitler" erschien in den USA 1941 ein nicht autorisiertes Porträt des Industriellen Fritz Thyssen, Sohn des Gründers des Montankonzerns. Die Kontroverse über die Unterstützung Hitlers durch Wirtschaft und Großindustrie und die Rolle Fritz Thyssens dauert seither an. Der Journalist (Handelsblatt, SPIEGEL, ZEIT) Eglau ("Edzard Reuter", BA 11/91) hat trotz schlechter Archivlage umfassend recherchiert und eine zwar an Fakten kaum Neues bringende, aber kritisch hinterfragende, lesenswerte Biografie vorgelegt. Fritz Thyssen (1873-1951): ab 1898 in leitender Position der Firma, im Ruhrkampf von Franzosen verhaftet, 1923 Beitritt zur NSDAP, ab 1933 zahlreiche Ehrenämter im NS-Staat, 1939 Protest gegen Hitlers Kriegspolitik, Emigration, Ausbürgerung, Beschlagnahmung der Fabriken, 1940 in Frankreich verhaftet, bis 1945 KZ (Oranienburg, Buchenwald, Dachau).
