Deutschsprachige Literatur ist in der Reifeprüfung seit 200 Jahren fest verankert. Die Untersuchung analysiert Westberliner Abituraufsätze der 1950er und 1960er Jahre im Kontext didaktischer Handreichungen, Lehrpläne und Prüfungsordnungen. Sie fragt, wie Schüler_innen mit literarischen Texten umgingen, welche Vorstellungen über Literatur sie formulierten und wie sich ihre Ausführungen zu den Normvorstellungen der Lehrkräfte verhielten. Die Autorin beleuchtet Herausforderungen schulischen literaturbezogenen Schreibens und Versuche, Aufgaben- und Aufsatzformate weiterzuentwickeln. Sie liefert neue Erkenntnisse zum schulischen Umgang mit ‹klassischer› und ‹moderner› Literatur und zur Frage, welche Potenziale man literarischen Werken – zwischen ‹Lebenshilfe› und ‹Gesellschaftskritik› – zuschrieb.
