Bislang wurde das Themenfeld Migration und Gesundheit stark problemzentriert behandelt. So gelten Migranten als Bevölkerungsgruppe, die hohen Gesundheitsrisiken ausgesetzt und nur schwer durch Institutionen und Maßnahmen der Gesundheitsversorgung zugänglich ist. Die Studie begegnet dieser Sichtweise differenzierend unter Anwendung qualitativer Forschungsmethoden und Bezugnahme auf den Ansatz der Transmigration. Dieser Ansatz berücksichtigt, dass Menschen mit Migrationshintergrund ihr Leben zunehmend „pluri-lokal“ zwischen Ankunfts- und Herkunftsregion gestalten und ermöglicht die Herausarbeitung von gesundheitsrelevanten Kompetenzen und Ressourcen, die Menschen mit solchen besonderen Lebenskontexten mitbringen bzw. entwickeln. Die Studie gibt Einblick in die subjektiven Realitäten von zehn bildungserfolgreichen Frauen mit Migrationshintergrund und zeigt, dass deren transnationale Lebensbezüge positive Impulse für das Gesundheitshandeln geben. So verfügen sie z.B. über ein hohes gesundheitliches Sensibilisierungspotenzial und nutzen die Verbindung zum familiären Selbsthilfenetzwerk ihrer Herkunftsregion kreativ.
