Anhand zentraler Werke von Künstlern und Architekten wie Diego Rivera, Luis Barragán und Mathias Goeritz geht Kirsten Einfeldt den Einflüssen zeitgenössischer Identitätsdiskurse auf Kunst im öffentlichen Raum in Mexiko nach. Neben Skulpturen und Wandbildern der 1950er bis 1980er Jahre ist die Konzeptkunst zahlreicher Kollektive aus der Zeit der mexikanischen Studentenbewegung Gegenstand der Untersuchung. Die Studie wertet Archivmaterial aus und basiert auf einer Feldforschung der Autorin sowie auf zahlreichen Interviews mit Künstlern, Kritikern, Historikern und anderen Experten und bietet damit erstmalig einen Überblick über die öffentliche Kunst der mexikanischen Moderne.
