László Darvasi ("Die Legende von den Tränengauklern", BA 5/02) ist einer der bekanntesten und ein vielfach ausgezeichneter Schriftsteller Ungarns. Sein neues Werk ist ähnlich wie die "Tränengaukler" so recht kein Roman, eher ein Konglomerat verschiedener Textformen. Die vielen Handlungen sind um die ungarische Revolution im Jahr 1848 gruppiert. Das Leben von Imre und Klara, 2 Außenseitern, und den Menschen, die ihren Lebensweg begleiten, wird sprach- und bildgewaltig aufgezeichnet. Diese bildliche Sprache ähnelt der Bildersprache von Neo Rauch: interessant, zum Überlegen zwingend, auf den 1. Blick. Wenn man den 2. wagt und das fremde Gedankengebäude betritt, saugt es den Betrachter hinein in eine wunderbare, verrätselte Welt und man beginnt, die Rätsel aufzulösen. Äußerst inspirierend, eine Melange aus magischem Realismus und Surrealismus in einer wunderbar bildhaften Sprache. Der Rezensent von NDR Kultur beschrieb es als "ein Buch wie eine seltene, farbenfrohe Blume". Auch wenn der Tod immer wieder eine Rolle spielt: Es ist ein großer Text über das Leben. (Claus Baumgart)
