Lebensklug und ironisch spiegelt John Elsas in seinen Bildern das gesellschaftliche und politische Leben seiner Zeit schonungslos wider. Seine Bilder, mit Versen am unteren Bildrand versehen, haben einen unverwechselbaren Stil. Sie präzisieren Lebensweisheiten und Künstlertum, jüdische Identität und den zionistischen Traum sowie die politischen Wirren seiner Zeit. Der Börsenmakler John Elsas entstammte einer angesehenen Frankfurter Familie. Um 1915 begann er - zunächst für seine Enkel - zu malen und zu reimen und erntete bald höchste Anerkennung: Von Kunstkritikern begeistert aufgenommen wurden seine Bilder 1929 in der Berliner "Sturm"-Galerie des Schriftstellers Herwarth Walden ausgestellt. Das Jüdische Museum Franken zeigt mit über 70 Bildern einen Querschnitt durch John Elsas' Werk. Zur Ausstellung gibt es eine Rallye für Kinder und einen Workshop mit der Künstlerin Verena Waffek und dem Mundartdichter Helmut Haberkamm. Nach dem Elsas'schen Motto "Ich zeige Dir ein Bild der Welt" können Kinder ihre künstlerischen und dichterischen Fähigkeiten frei entfalten. Die fertig gestellten Bilder und Texte werden im Museum präsentiert.
