Kants Praktische Philosophie identifiziert die kognitiven Voraussetzungen vernünftiger Praxis im Wesentlichen mit der von ihm zur Sprache gebrachten Vernunft und mit der seit Aristoteles zur Sprache gebrachten Urteilskraft. Im Gegensatz zu den in unserer Zeit inflationär gewordenen öffentlichen Thematisierungen und Beschwörungen einer Instanz namens Vernunft ist die Tätigkeit der praktischen Vernunft im Licht von Kants Praktischer Philosophie an eine vollständig durchschaubare Folge methodischer Schritte gebunden. Mit ihrer Hilfe können alle subjektiv-individuellen Handlungsvorsätze und Handlungsweisen von Menschen auf ihre moralische, ihre rechtliche und sogar ihre politische Richtigkeit geprüft werden. So autonom Kant diese Vernunft im Entwurf dieser methodischen Schrittfolge auch sieht, so wenig blind ist er für das andere, spezifisch anthropologische kognitive Desiderat, dass die Prüfungen durch die Vernunft die »durch Erfahrung geschärfte Urteilskraft erfordern«. Die Vernünftigkeit der Praxis, die in den hier versammelten acht Abhandlungen erörtert wird, soll durch die Analyse des Zusammenspiels dieser beiden kognitiven Instanzen deutlich gemacht werden.
