Der Mediziner und Jurist schreibt die Wochenkolumne "Gewissensfrage" im Magazin der "Süddeutschen Zeitung", in der er Leserfragen zu moralischen Alltagsproblemen behandelt. Diese ergänzte "Best of"-Sammlung ist nicht die erste (vgl. ID-A 22/16, ID-A 21/11), zudem hat er sich auch schon anderweitig mit ethischen Herausforderungen moderner Menschen beschäftigt (u.a. ID-A 15/16, ID-A 16/11, ID-A 40/04). Schwerpunkte sind zum einen Liebe, Sex und Partnerschaft (Fremdgehen, Verschwiegenheit, Scham, Geheimnisse etc.), zum anderen Ökonomie (z.B. Eintrittskartenkauf auf dem Schwarzmarkt) und Ökologie (z.B. SUV-Fahren und Fliegen vs. Klimaschutz). Erlinger zeigt sich als Kantianer, dessen Pflichtethik er allerdings immer wieder - durchaus alltagstauglich - mit Verweisen auf weniger strenge Philosophen überwiegend französischer Provenienz abmildert. Rekurse auf den angloamerikanischen Utilitarismus mit seinem Prinzip der Glücksmaximierung finden sich hingegen kaum. - Wie die Magazin-Kolumne kompakt, anschaulich, geistreich - und nie langweilig. Ein Selbstläufer.
