"In den 1960er-Jahren war der See Balaton in Ungarn der einzige Ort, an dem sich jedes Jahr zur Ferienzeit west- und ostdeutsche Urlauber zu einer entspannten "Wiedervereinigung" im Kleinen treffen konnten. Mittels Amateurfilmen, Fotos und Interviews zeichnet der dokumentarische Essay-Film einerseits die lebensfrohe Atmosphäre jener Sommer nach, rückt andererseits aber auch die - damals den wenigsten bewusste - Rundum-Überwachung durch Stasi und den ungarischen Geheimdienst ins Bewusstsein.
