Fast so alt wie die Geschichte der Computer ist die der digitalen oder Computerkunst. Vergleichsweise jung sind allerdings NFTs (Non-Fungible Tokens, nicht ersetzbare digital geschützte Objekte). Die Werke haben kein Trägermedium (bzw. DVD) sondern lassen sich über einen einzigartigen digitalen Code abrufen und speichern. Seit dem Frühjahr 2020 sorgen NFTs oft für Höchstpreise auf dem Kunstmarkt. Das Buch begleitet eine Ausstellung in Linz (Juni-September 2021) und versteht sich selbst als Handbuch zur jungen und viel diskutieren Thematik. So werden nicht nur die Geschichte der digitalen Kunst behandelt, sondern auch die rechtlichen Aspekte, ihre Musealisierung (d.h. Sicherung wie Ausstellbarkeit), sowie das Für und Wider des gegenwärtigen Hypes diskutiert. In Interviews kommen Expert*innen zu Wort. Die vielen Abbildungen geben einen sehr guten Überblick über die Kunstrichtung und wichtige Protagonist*innen. QR-Codes machen es möglich, einzelne Arbeiten zu animieren und sogar zu erwerben
