Das Kinderheim Fehrbelliner Straße 92 war eine der jüdischen Sozial- und Bildungseinrichtungen, die Anfang des 20. Jahrhunderts im Nordosten Berlins entstanden. Es wurde wie alle diese Institutionen in den 40er Jahren von den NS-Behörden geschlossen. Fast alle in dem Heim untergebrachten Kinder und ebenso fast alle dort mit ihrer Pflege und Erziehung betreuten Erwachsenen fielen der NS-Diktatur zum Opfer und kamen im Holocaust um. Inge Franken, erinnert durch Zusammenstellen historischer Quellen, darunter sieben Zeitzeugenberichten, und durch Kontaktaufnahme und Interviews mit einzelnen überlebenden Bewohnern an die Geschichte des Kinderheims. Sie zeichnet ein beklemmendes Bild des kurzen Lebens vor allem der jüdischen Heimkinder unter dem immer stärker werdenden, Menschen verachtenden Druck des NS-Terrors. Selbst aus einer Regime-gläubigen Familie stammend, wendet sich Inge Franken mit ihrem Buch gegen das vergessen und hält die wenigen Spuren der gemordeten Kinder und ihrer Betreuerinnen sichtbar.
