Content: David Fray recording Mozart's piano concertos captured once again by the film director Bruno Monsaingeon. David Fray's rise to fame was very sudden. In 2006, he stepped in for Hélène Grimaud in Paris while playing the same program. For this performance, he received a well-deserved standing ovation from the audience at the Théâtre du Châtelet immediately followed by the press. In just a few months, David Fray found himself in the spotlights of the international music scene. Bruno Monsaingeon closely followed his story. Always looking for bright new talents, the movie director quickly became very interested in the young pianists' career. When David Fray recorded a Bach disc, Bruno Monsaingeon was filming in the studios and creating a fascinating documentary: Sing, Swing & amp; Think. Two years later, David Fray's journey has brought him to unthinkable heights. Acclaimed by critics around the world, designated at Instrumental Soloist of the Year 2010 at the French Victoires de la musique classique, he is currently recognized as one of the best and most charismatic pianists of his generation. In 2010, the time has come for him to study Mozart's last period of writing in all of his complexity, subtlety, profoundness. Having recently signed an exclusive rights contract with Virgin Classics for the concertos KV 482 and 503, David Fray recorded these pieces and once again Bruno Monsaingeon was there to follow him. The documentary reflects on the density of David Fray's interpretation of these Major works by the Austrian composer

Uniform Title: Allegrettos piano D. 915 Von fremden Ländern und Menschen C minor
Content: At the occasion of his first appearance at the Verbier Festival, in 2009, the pianist David Fray chose to interpret two composers that he has a particular affection for: Schubert and Bach. Certain pages of music allow us to glipse, sometimes, such vast and majestic sections of the universe that we no longer think about the question of age. "Should I wait a few years before tackling this work? Will I then be ready to play it well?" The extreme emotion that surges forth when the young David Fray plays one of the the Drei Klavierstücke, D. 946 by Shubert is proof of the futility of such questions. Even while resting in the intimate and almost nostalgic spirit of the compositions, the pianist manages to bring to light a secret grandeur present in the music. When David Fray interprets Bach, the same sensation makes itself felt. One of his great qualities is certainly his ability to elaborate an advanced analysis of the musical text in his interpretative work, while still leaving place for naturalness and sensitivity. On could almost speak of a form of lyricism, though this term is somewhat anachronistic to refer to the Cantor of Leipzig! The first of the Schumann's Kinderszenen closes David Fray's recital. The fifth of the pieces which brings together this collection of childhood memories is called Happy Enough: this is also the state we find ourselves in after listening to this recital at the Verbier Festival
    Note: Allegretto in C minor, D. 915 ; , 3 Klavierstücke, D. 946. No. 2 in E flat major / , Partita no. 6 in E minor, BWV€830 / , Kinderszenen (Scenes from Childhood), op. 15. Von fremden Ländern und Menschen /

Uniform Title: Wohltemperierte Klavier harpsichord 1. T arranged Allein Gott in der Höh' sei Ehr' E minor
Content: The Great Bach in a piano recital given by David Fray in 2008, during the Pianoscope Festival, at the Théatre du Beauvaisis. David Fray is one of the Major French pianists of his generation, and has performed on many of the world's most prestigious stages, and in many festivals like la Roque d'Anthéron, Piano aux Jacobins, Klavier-Festival Ruhr. He performs with many prestigious orchestras, among them: the Orchestre de Paris, the Orchestre National de France, the Orchestre National du Capitole de Toulouse or the Orchestre du Bayerische Rundfunk. He also gave many recitals in Paris, Turin, Zurich, Barcelona, etc. Since 2008, he has recorded Bach's concertos, Schubert's Impromptus and Six moments musicaux, as well as Mozart's 22nd and 25th piano concertos. He was awarded many prizes for his brilliant performances, the latest being the "best classical instrumental soloist" at the 2010 Victoires de la musique classique. David Fray wishes to focus mainly on the German repertoire, and particularly on Bach. To express the inspiration his favorite composer gives him, he told the Figaro newspaper: "Bach's language is nothing but absolutely modern ... Bach guides me towards a spiritual dimension, more than any other composer. Reading his music his already enriching." In this Pianoscope Festival Concert entirely dedicated to Bach, David Fray chose to perform his Prelude and fugue No. 24 in B Minor, the Partita No. 6 in E Minor BWV 830, and Busoni's transcription of Bach's Choral Allein Gott in der Höh'sei ehr

Uniform Title: Sonatas violin, piano no. 6, op. 30, no. 1 A major
Content: Two young musicians unite for two sumptuous Beethoven sonatas for violin and piano! These two musicians are David Fray and Valeriy Sokolov. The first is a native of Southern France, the second comes from the Ukraine, and their concert takes place among the tops of the Swiss Alps during the 2009 Verbier Festival! The video recording of this recital allows us, too, as listeners and spectators, to attain new musical heights. The harmony and complicity between the pianist and violinist are more than superficial: eye contact, mutual attentiveness, supporting one another note after note & Watching these musicians is a true pleasure. Is it even necessary to call attention to the universality of Beethoven's compositions? Or to make explicit the inherent qualities of the two interpreters? The legato of Valeriy Sokolov, a technique which involves connecting each note without any perceptible transitions, (his "right hand") is exceptional and responds to the precise touch of David Fray. The latter manages to bring out each timbre and color of the score with subtlety. All of Beethoven can be found in the sixth sonata: formal rigor, lyricism, playful contrasts and chiaroscuro, humor & And emotion of course. There is also a little gem between the two sonatas: David Fray et Valeriy Sokolv play Bach's Sonata for violin and harpsichord No. 4 in C Minor, BWV 1017. The intense lyricism of the slow movement "Sicilian" echoes curiously with other music, and one does not feel too far, ultimately, from the pre-romanticism of Beethoven's writing
Note: Violin sonata no. 6 in A major, op. 30, no. 1 / Ludwig van Beethoven -- Sonata for violin and harpsichord no. 4 in C minor, BWV 1017 / Johann Sebastian Bach.

Uniform Title: Concertos harpsichord, string orchestra BWV 1055 A major
Content: Bruno Monsaingeon's camera immerses us in the private world of David Fray "recreating" three concertos for keyboard and orchestra by Johann Sebastian Bach. Although Major musical figures such as Gould, Richter, Menuhin or Varaday are part of Bruno Monsaingeon's universe, the filmmaker also likes to share his discoveries of young artists. As in the cases of Piotr Anderszewski and the violinist Valery Sokolov several years ago and today with the pianist David Fray who was born in 1981. The critics had already noticed David Fray with his first CD which cleverly associated Bach and Boulez and that Virgin Classics distributed under its label in 2007. But in June 2006, a concert at the Théâtre du Châtelet 2006 put him in the limelight: he replaced Hélène Grimaud at the last minute and in the same programme. A triumph. But David Fray isn't afraid of being in the limelight. He lets Bruno Monsaingeon film the recording of his first record for Virgin Classics in January 2008 with "Deutsche Kammerphilarmonie Bremen" which he directs from the piano with a programme that includes four of the most famous concertos for keyboard and orchestra by Bach. But how can one play Bach after Gould? This is what Bruno Monsaingeon proposes to show us. We see David Fray at home, in Paris, working on the score and explaining the different options open to him. Then in Bremen, during rehearsals with the orchestra, as he conveys to the musicians his vision of the works with astonishing passion and spontaneity. As the title of the film "Swing, Sing and Think" suggests, it is this same inspiration that Fray breathes into the three Bach Concertos in A Major BWV 1055, in F Minor BWV 1056 and in G Minor BWV 1058. By immersing us in the private world of the pianist, by retracing the musical gesture that leads to the interpretation of the work, or rather to its "re-creation," the film also immerses us in these masterpieces by Bach? That is not the least of the film's merits
