Natürlich können Sie dieses Buch auch einfach aus Interesse am Thema lesen. Ganz gleich, aus welchem Grund Sie dieses Buch in die Hand genommen haben, Sie werden hier eine Einführung in die mathematischen Grundlagen der Ingenieurwissenschaften finden, die die wichtigsten Themenbereiche der Ingenieursmathematik aus den ersten Semestern abdeckt. In diesem ersten Band werden Sie alles für das Grundstudium Wesentliche über reelle und komplexe Zahlen erfahren sowie das Handwerkszeug der linearen Algebra und die Grundkonzepte der eindimensionalen Analysis (Differentiation, Integration und unendliche Reihen) kennen lernen. Wahrscheinlich werden Sie sich an einigen Stellen an Ihre Schulmathematik erinnern, allerdings geht die Mathematik für Ingenieure schon bei den Grundlagen meist deutlich tiefer, als das in der Schule üblich ist. Trotzdem werden alle mathematischen Konzepte und Begriffe in verständlicher Sprache erklärt und durch viele Beispiele und Schritt-für-Schritt-Anleitungen anschaulich gemacht.

Dr. J. Michael Fried studierte Mathematik und Physik zunächst an der Universität Heidelberg, dann an der Universität Freiburg und promovierte dort mit einem Thema aus der angewandten Mathematik. Nach einem Jahr an der Australian National University in Canberra ist Michael Fried heute Akademischer Direktor an der Universität Erlangen-Nürnberg und unterrichtet dort Mathematik für Ingenieure. Außerdem gibt er Kurse in angewandter Mathematik für Studierende der Mathematik und arbeitet zusammen mit Mathematikern und Ingenieuren an verschiedenen Projekten im Bereich der mathematischen Bildverarbeitung. Für seinen Kurs zur Mathematik für Ingenieure wurde er mit dem "Preis für gute Lehre 2009" des Freistaats Bayern ausgezeichnet.
