Vor nunmehr rund 70 Jahren erhielt die Statik der Ingenieurtragwerke ihre heute noch gültige Form. CULMANN, RITTER, MOHR, MULLER-BRESLAU um nur einige der bedeutendsten Namen zu nennen, waren die Schöpfer dieser Leistung, nachdem das achtzehnte Jahrhundert und im neunzehnten Jahrhundert Mathematiker wie POISSON, CAUCHY, CLEBSCH, MAXWELL, ST-VENANT die theoretischen Grundlagen geschaffen hatten. In den achtziger Jahren gab MULLER BRESLAU der Statik der mehrfach standfesten Tragwerke ihre klassische Form in Darstellung und Bezeichnungsweise. Es war jene Theorie, welche im vorliegenden Werk als das "Kraftverfahren" bezeichnet wird und welche die Berechnung der Tragwerke in rein analytische Form brachte. Doch befriedigte diese analytische Form keineswegs. Das abstrakte Denken sagt vielen nicht zu, weshalb man "anschauliche" Berechnungsweisen suchte. MOHR vor allem setzte die Bemühungen fort, ein auf die Formänderungen gegründetes Verfahren zu finden, aber erst seinem Schüler GEHLER gelang 1913 der entscheidende Schritt vorwärts. Nach ihm baute MANN 1927 die Methode, welche hier das "Formänderungsverfahren" genannt wird, entscheidend aus. Aber damit war auch dieses Verfahren zu einem rein analytischen geworden, nicht minder abstrakt als das 50 Jahre früher entwickelte Kraftverfahren
