In zunehmendem Maße reagieren biologisch-technische Systeme - nicht zuletzt durch die Optimierung und Belastung bis an die Grenzen ihrer Stabilität - zunehmend sensibler auf die Zufuhr anthropogener Schadstoffe. Zu den biologisch-technischen Systemen zählen Kläranlagen, aber auch Vorfluter und Seen; dies umso mehr, je stärker sie technisch verändert wurden. Von den Schadstoffen sind besonders diejenigen interessant, die einen allgemeinen, jeden Menschen betreffenden Zielkonflikt widerspiegeln, wie beispielsweise die mikrobiziden Stoffe. Während viele Substanzen als "Chemie" und "Gift" von der Allgemeinheit abgelehnt werden, weil sie nur eng begrenzt als Wertstoffe benötigt werden, stellen Desinfektionsmittel und Konservierungsstoffe Substanzen dar, die aus unserem heutigen (technisierten) Leben nicht mehr wegzudenken sind und allgemein akzeptiert werden, obwohl sie in ähnlicher Weise biozid sind wie die gemeinhin abgelehnten Pestizide. Dieses Dilemma des "Vorne-wirken-Müssens" (sprich: im Krankenhaus oder in verderblichen Lebensmitteln) und "Hinten-nicht-wirken-Sollens" (sprich: in der kommunalen Kläranlage) eröffnet breiten Raum zur Erforschung akzeptabler Kompromisse. Insbesondere die erforderliche Vertiefung des Wissens um die Zusammenhänge, möglichen Effekte und systemspezifischen Hemmnisse erfordert die Zusammenarbeit verschiedenster Fachdisziplinen. In Zukunft wird man - die hier vorgelegten Untersuchungsergebnisse zeigen erste Beispiele auf - immer mehr den Gesamtzusammenhang sehen müssen. D. h. , der Typ der Kläranlage oder die Länge des Abwassersammlers, die Zusammensetzung des Abwassers und mögliche Industrieabwasserzuflüsse determinieren wie in einem Regelkreis (Feedback) die Art und Einsatzmenge mikrobizider, aber auch anderer Stoffe
