Der weder anspruchslose noch billige Titel (DM 178,-) von John Gage war seinerzeit (ID 21/95) vergleichsweise erfolgreich, weshalb der Verlag eine womöglich noch anspruchsvollere Fortsetzung mit früher zum Thema erschienenen Buchbeiträgen und Zeitschriftenartikeln des Verfassers nachschob (ID 47/99). Nun erscheint die "Kulturgeschichte der Farben" erneut, diesmal kartoniert und preislich deutlich reduziert. "Keine streng wissenschaftliche Studie" strebt der Autor an, auch keine interdisziplinäre Untersuchung über das Thema. Er befasst sich der Reihe nach mit den Ursprüngen der Methoden und Konzepte bildender Kunst. Sie betrachtet er als in Bildform artikulierte Anschauung über Farbe ... Auch Farbenlehre und Maltechnologie und ihre Anwendung kommen nicht zu kurz. Mit Bibliographie und Abbildungsverzeichnis (Silvia Merz-Horn). Größeren Beständen weiterhin empfohlen.
