In der ersten Hälfte des 20. Jahrhunderts vollzogen sich in Chile, Argentinien und Uruguay gesellschaftliche Modernisierungsprozesse, die sich auch auf die Konzeptionen von Familie, Geschlechterverhältnis und insbesondere Weiblichkeit auswirkten. Hiervon zeugt auch die literarische Produktion, zu der nun vermehrt Frauen beizutragen begannen. Diese Arbeit untersucht zwölf Romane von Schriftstellerinnen aus dem Cono Sur aus der Zeit von 1933 bis 1957, in denen die Protagonistinnen als soziale, körperliche und psychische Subjekte thematisiert werden. Die «klassisch weibliche» Thematik von Liebe und Begehren, die ihnen gemeinsam ist, erweist sich dabei als strategisches Moment und erzählerischer Schachzug, über die die grundsätzlichen Fragen nach weiblicher Subjektivität gestellt werden.
