Mit seiner breit angelegten Perspektive auf die Geschichte des Ersten Weltkrieges folgt der vorliegende Sammelband den aktuellen Trends der internationalen Weltkriegsforschung. Die Autoren untersuchen nicht nur die sogenannte „Heimatfront“ des Ersten Weltkrieges, sondern werfen gleichermaßen einen Blick auf andere Kriegsschauplätze. Die zwanzig Beiträge versuchen die Ereignisse zwischen 1914 und 1918 sowohl in die langen Linien des 19. und 20. Jahrhunderts einzubetten, wie auch die oft an die nationalstaatlichen Perspektiven gebundenen Grenzen aufzubrechen. Als Ergebnis liegen nun neue Einblicke vor, die diesen ersten weltumspannenden Krieg, der das gesamte folgende Jahrhundert prägte, in einem neuen Licht erscheinen lassen.

Er lehrt am Institut für Geschichte der Universität Wien. Umfangreiche Studien zur Geschichte des Ersten Weltkrieges, zur Entwicklung Österreichs im 19. und 20. Jahrhundert sowie zur Kommunismus-, Sozialismus- und Kapitalismusforschung. Zahlreiche Auszeichnungen.

Sie ist Lektorin am Institut für Geschichte der Universität Wien, Mitarbeiterin an wissenschaftlichen Forschungsprojekten zur österreichischen und russischen Geschichte des 20. Jahrhunderts, zum Ersten Weltkrieg sowie zu filmhistorischen Themen. Seit 2009 Mitglied der österreichisch-russischen Historikerkommission. Zahlreiche Auszeichnungen.
