Der Autor, Dozent an der Universität Jena, referiert zunächst kurz die allgemeinen Veränderungen, die durch die neuen Infomationstechnologien in Bezug auf Wirtschaft und Arbeitswelt entstehen. Er geht auf den Nutzen vor allem des Internets ein, die Vormachtstellung der USA auf diesem Sektor, betrachtet jedoch auch die durch kriminelle Aktivitäten entstandenen Gefahren. Der Verfasser spricht schließlich von einer in zwei Klassen gespaltenen Informationsgesellschaft, die auf die Industriestaaten zukommt, aus der die unteren sozialen Schichten notwendigerweise neuerlich als Verlierer hervorgehen.
