Die Verarbeitung von Geschichte in digitalen Spielen ist kein Randphänomen. Computerspiele sind integraler Bestandteil unserer Kultur. Die Handlungen der Nutzerinnen und Nutzer sind im digitalen Spiel notwendiges Spielelement. Die Wiedergabe der historischen Inhalte ist daher ebenso individuell wie die Rezeption selbst. In dieser Arbeit wird ein transdisziplinäres, geschichtsdidaktisch akzentuiertes Theoriemodell zur geschichtsbewussten Rezeption und Repräsentation von Geschichte im digitalen Spiel herausgearbeitet, das durch eine qualitativ-quantitativ ausgerichtete Studie im Ansatz empirisch fundiert wird. Neben ersten Ergebnissen zu Transfereffekten und -prozessen im Kontext des Konsums historisierender digitaler Spielwelten wird eine Typisierung individuell geschichtsbewusster Rezeption am Beispiel von Assassin’s Creed® III konturiert. Abschließend werden Konsequenzen für informelles wie auch institutionelles historisches Lernen in digitalen Spielwelten abgeleitet.
