Die Alphabetisierungsarbeit ist in der Bundesrepublik Deutschland mittlerweile zu einem festen Bestandteil des Angebots vieler Erwachsenenbildungseinrichtungen geworden, so daß ca. 6000 jugendliche und erwachsene Teilnehmer in Kursen lesen und schreiben lernen. Durch die Resonanz, die dieses Thema in den Medien findet, werden immer mehr Betroffene auf Lernmöglichkeiten aufmerksam, so daß mit einer Ausweitung der Alphabetisierungsarbeit gerechnet werden kann. In dieser Situation stellt sich die Frage der Ausbildung und Fortbildung von Kursleitern, die bislang aus den verschiedensten Ausbildungsgängen kommen. Auch muß gefragt werden, in welchem Maße die wissenschaftliche Erforschung des Lernens von Lesen und Schreiben und die Untersuchung zur Entstehung von Analphabetismus gediehen sind. Auf dem Hintergrund dieser Situation fand im März 1985 eine vom Herausgeber geleitete Tagung an der Universität Oldenburg statt, auf der Kursleiter, Wissenschaftler und Vertreter von Institutionen, die Alphabetisierungsarbeit organisieren, referierten und diskutierten. Die Referate werden in dem vorliegenden Band veröffentlicht; auch wird in Auszügen die Diskussion der Tagung dokumentiert. Dabei standen drei Themenbereiche im Mittelpunkt: 1. Die Untersuchung des Lernens bzw. Nicht-Lernens von geschriebener Sprache. Hierbei wurde deutlich, daß eine Reihe späterer Analphabeten bereits in ihrer Grundschulzeit den Anschluß an den 'normalen' Lernprozeß verlieren und in den folgenden Schuljahren keine Gelegenheit haben, 'von Anfang an' lesen und schreiben noch einmal zu lernen. 2. Analphabetismus und Medien. Das Thema Analphabetismus ist Gegenstand der Berichterstattung in den Massenmedien. Auch muß das Medienverhalten von Analphabeten einer genaueren Untersuchung unterzogen werden. Ferner muß überlegt werden, in welcher Weise Betroffene und Öffentlichkeit angemessen über die Alphabetisierungsarbeit informiert werden können. 3. Die Ausbi 〈dt.〉
