Nachdem Umweltprobleme auf kindgerechte Weise thematisiert wurden ("Schütz die Erde", ID-A 12/11), folgt nun der "Tierschutz". Einige Bereiche überschneiden sich (Haustiere, Bauernhof), sind aber neu gestaltet und ausführlicher. Das Layout ist ähnlich: gute Farbfotos in verschiedenen Größen und Formaten auf den Seiten platziert, ausführliche Infotexte, ergänzt durch einige "Wusstest Du schon"-Kästchen und "3 Fragen an Professor Kniffelogus", eine Art Comicfigur. Es geht um Artenschutz, Gefährdung von Wildtieren auf der ganzen Welt, Zoo und Zirkus. Näher am eigenen Verhalten ist das Thema "Tiere essen" und damit die Massentierhaltung. Die Texte fordern sehr deutlich Respekt vor dem tierischen Leben in jeder Form. Einiges kann man aber wohl auch anders sehen, als der meinungsstarke Autor. In dieser Breite gab es lange nichts mehr. "Tierliebe mit Köpfchen" (BA 7/93) oder "Das Tierschutz-Buch" (ID-A 7/90) werden nicht mehr vorhanden sein, neuere Titel behandeln meist Teilaspekte, z.B. "Bedrohte Tiere" (ID-A 47/11) oder verschiedene Haustierbücher für Kinder. Überall empfohlen, auch für Schulbibliotheken.

Mit zahlreichen Farbfotos reich illustriert zeigt das Buch, wie schlecht Tiere oft von Menschen behandelt werden - als Haus- und Nutztiere, oder dass sie etwa durch Vernichtung der Lebensräume ganz ausgerottet werden. Es zeigt aber auch, was man dagegen tun kann.
