Content: Today, databases are deployed in distributed, heterogeneous hardware and systems software environments. Hardware platforms, systems software, and database management systems are multivendor and multitiered with different architectures including mainframes, personal computers, servers, and workstations. The challenge is to ensure non-redundant, consistent, reliable, integrated, and usable data, processes, and information systems across the enterprise. Here the author presents the techniques necessary to implement an enterprise database - a network of data bases across different computing platforms. He explains how to define the enterprise data model, presents the principles and methodology necessary to define the database project environment, and explains the enterprise database projects that guarantee the success of your database project. He concludes with a summary of the entire database effort.

Series Statement: Bloomsbury Studies in the Aristotelian Tradition
Content: Jesuit engagement with natural philosophy during the late 16th and early 17th centuries transformed the status of the mathematical disciplines and propelled members of the Order into key areas of controversy in relation to Aristotelianism. Through close investigation of the activities of the Jesuit 'school' of mathematics founded by Christoph Clavius, The Scientific Counter-Revolution examines the Jesuit connections to the rise of experimental natural philosophy and the emergence of the early scientific societies. Arguing for a re-evaluation of the role of Jesuits in shaping early modern science, this book traces the evolution of the Collegio Romano as a hub of knowledge. Starting with an examination of Clavius's Counter-Reformation agenda for mathematics, Michael John Gorman traces the development of a collective Jesuit approach to experimentation and observation under Christopher Grienberger and analyses the Jesuit role in the Galileo Affair and the vacuum debate. Ending with a discussion of the transformation of the Collegio Romano under Athanasius Kircher into a place of curiosity and wonder and the centre of a global information gathering network, this book reveals how the Counter-Reformation goals of the Jesuits contributed to the shaping of modern experimental science.

    Series Statement: De Gruyter Studienbuch
Content: As yet, a good German translation does not exist of this pivotal work, nor is an introduction available which explains the central topics in a comprehensible yet authoritative manner. This gap is filled by the present work which uses key themes from Thomasian philosophy (and theology) to provide an introduction to the overall conception of the Summa theologiae. The review of the present state of research on the Summa theologiae provides a comprehensive handbook particularly suited for university teaching. It is designed not only for the specialist reader but equally for those with a general interest in the subject.

Content: The hypostatic union of Christ, namely his being simultaneously human and divine, is one of the founding doctrines of Christian theology. In this book Michael Gorman presents the first full-length treatment of Aquinas's metaphysics of the hypostatic union. After setting out the historical and theological background, he examines Aquinas's metaphysical presuppositions, explains the basic elements of his account of the hypostatic union, and then enters into detailed discussions of four areas where it is more difficult to get a clear understanding of Aquinas's views, arguing that in some cases we must be content with speculative reconstructions that are true to the spirit of Aquinas's thought. His study pays close attention to the Latin texts and their chronology, and engages with a wide range of secondary literature. It will be of great interest to theologians as well as to scholars of metaphysics and medieval thought.
