TON-E Nach der Übersiedlung nach Moskau 1943, musste Weinberg mit einem weit verbreiteten Antisemitismus in der Bevölkerung und seitens der Politik leben. Vielleicht komponierte er gerade deshalb eigens für die niveauvolle Unterhaltung und Erbauung der jüdischen Community in Moskau Mitte der 1970er Jahre die Oper "Wir gratulieren!", ein Werk voller jüdischer Topoi, das sich gleichzeitig sozialistisch tarnt (als Feinde und Unterdrücker werden hier deutlich die "reichen Leute" ausgemacht, die es zu entmachten gilt) wahrscheinlich weil es sonst in Russland keine Aufführungschance gehabt hätte. Der Text der Oper, an dem Weinberg selbst nur wenige Änderungen vornahm, stammt im Original von dem "jüdischen Mark Twain", von Scholem Alejchem (18591916). Alejchem ist uns heute vor allem durch seine Erzählung "Tewje, der Milchmann" bekannt, die später den Stoff für das Musical Fiddler on the Roof (in Deutschland besser bekannt unter dem Namen Anatevka) lieferte. Die Kammerakademie Potsdam unter Vlademir Stoupel spielt die Fassung für Kammerensemble von Henry Koch live aus dem Konzerthaus Berlin.
