Der Titel erzeugt erst einmal Aufmerksamkeit. Im Buch selbst geht es dann nicht nur um tierisches "Aa", sondern auch um allerlei andere Spuren. Zunächst Tipps zur Naturbeobachtung, dann ausführlich um Kot und Urin der verschiedensten Tiere weltweit. Wie sieht es aus, wie wird es ausgeschieden? Ausserdem Tritt- und Frassspuren, Baue und Nester, u.Ä. Auf den grossformatigen Seiten ist viel los. Man sieht mit Tieren belebte Landschaften, aber auch Einzelbilder auf hellem Hintergrund. Die informativen und launigen Texte sind meist häppchenweise auf den Seiten verstreut. Mit Quizfragen kann das Wissen geprüft werden. Einige gefährliche Tiere (Löwen, Tiger, Schlangen) werden etwas unmotiviert besonders ausführlich dargestellt. Illustriert ist das Buch mit Aquarellzeichnungen, auf denen fast alle Tiere einen humorvollen Ausdruck haben. "Welche Tierspur ist das?" lag zum Vergleich nicht vor, das knappere "Tierspuren" ("Natur-Entdecker") beschränkt sich auf heimische Tiere.
