    Uniform Title: Strangest family
Content: "In the U.S., Britain's George III, the protagonist of A Royal Experiment, is known as the king from whom Americans won their independence and as "the mad king," but in Janice Hadlow's groundbreaking and entertaining new biography, he is another character altogether--compelling and relatable. He was the first of Britain's three Hanoverian kings to be born in England, the first to identify as native of the nation he ruled. But this was far from the only difference between him and his predecessors. Neither of the previous Georges was faithful to his wife, nor to his mistresses. Both hated their own sons. And, overall, their children were angry, jealous, and disaffected schemers, whose palace shenanigans kick off Hadlow's juicy narrative and also made their lives unhappy ones. Pained by his childhood amid this cruel and feuding family, George came to the throne aspiring to be a new kind of king--a force for moral good. And to be that new kind of king, he had to be a new kind of man. Against his irresistibly awful family background--of brutal royal intrigue, infidelity, and betrayal--George fervently pursued a radical domestic dream: he would have a faithful marriage and raise loving, educated, and resilient children. The struggle of King George--along with his wife, Queen Charlotte, and their 15 children--to pursue a passion for family will surprise history buffs and delight a broad swath of biography readers and royal watchers"--

Content: " 'Will delight Pride and Prejudice fans' - Independent'Gorgeous' -The Sun'It's difficult not to race through those final pages' Jo Baker, author of LongbournIn Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice , Mary is the middle of the five Bennet girls and the plainest of them all, so what hope does she have? Prim and pious, with no redeeming features, she is unloved and seemingly unlovable. The Other Bennet Sister , though, shows another side to Mary. An introvert in a family of extroverts,a constant disappointment to her mother who values beauty above all else, fearful of her father's sharp tongue, with little in common with her siblings – is it any wonder she turns to books for both company and guidance? And, if she finds her life lonely or lacking, that she determines to try harder at the one thing she can be: right. One by one, her sisters marry – Jane and Lizzy for love,Lydia for some semblance of respectability – but Mary, it seems, is destined to remain single and live out her life at Longbourn, at least until her father dies and the house is bequeathed to the reviled Mr Collins. But when that fateful day finally comes, she slowly discovers that perhaps there is hope for her, after all. Simultaneously a wonderfully warm homage to Jane Austen and a delightful new story in its own right, Janice Hadlow's The Other Bennet Sister is, at its heart, a life-affirming tale of a young woman finding her place in the world. Witty and uplifting, it will make you feel – and cheer – for Mary as you never have before. "
Content: Biographisches: " Janice Hadlow was born in London and studied history at university. After a few years working for the House of Commons, she joined the BBC and became a television producer. There, and later at Channel Four, she played an important role in popularising history on tv, making a number of highly regarded series, including Simon Schama's History of Britain . She went on to run two of the BBC's major television channels, first as Controller of BBC 4 and then BBC 2, and she commissioned hits across a wide range of genres, from Great British Bake Off to the dramas Wolf Hall and Line of Duty . She was the recipient of a number of awards, and is a Fellow of the Royal Television Society, as well as of King's College, University of London. The Other Bennet Sister is her first novel although she has previously written one non fiction book, The Strangest Family , which told the story of the troubled relationship between George III and his wife and children. She currently lives in Edinburgh with her husband and has two sons. " Rezension(2): "〈a href=http://www.publishersweekly.com target=blank〉〈img src=https://images.contentreserve.com/pw_logo.png alt=Publisher's Weekly border=0 /〉〈/a〉: Starred review from April 20, 2020 Mary Bennet, the overlooked and unlikable fifth sister in Jane Austen’s Pride and Prejudice , learns to see herself and others clearly in Hadlow’s spectacular debut novel (after A Royal Experiment: The Private Life of George III ). Born without the beauty her mother prizes or the wit needed to win her father’s attention, Mary takes refuge in books and study. By the time her sisters marry and her father dies, Mary’s self-esteem, optimism, and trust in others have vanished. Then a happy stay with her aunt and uncle Gardiner in London offers a new perspective, suggesting that she must value herself in order to be valued by others. Naturally for an Austen-inspired novel, with self-awareness comes the possibility of true love. Writing in prose with the crisp liveliness of Austen’s own, Hadlow remains true to the characterizations in Pride and Prejudice without letting them limit her. Mary’s emergence from priggish insecurity is beautifully imagined,Austen’s smarmy Mr. Collins gets a surprising but convincing rehabilitation, the Gardiners are joyously fleshed out, and London, never visited in the Austen canon, comes vividly to life. Equal to the best Austen spin-offs, including Jo Baker’s Longbourn , this will delight Janeites as well as lovers of nuanced female coming-of-age tales."

Content: MACHINE-GENERATED SUMMARY NOTE: "Bauhaus (1919-1933). 'Let us create the new building of the future together; it will combine architecture, sculpture, and painting in a single form'. With this vision, Walter Gropius, in 1918, opened the Staatliche Bauhaus Weimar, which was to become one of the most influential schools of art, design and architecture from Dessau to Chicago. Artists such as Kandinsky, Itten, Feininger, Klee, Moholy-Nagy and Schlemmer taught there and, together with directors Gropius und van der Rohe, led the Bauhaus to embody reform, experimentation and the avant-garde. Through art works, archival records and interviews, this film delves into the exciting story of the school and its protagonists."

Content: For fans of Jane Austen's Pride and Prejudice, Janice Hadlow's The Other Bennet Sister tells Mary's story...It is a sad fact of life that if a young woman is unlucky enough to come into the world without expectations, she had better do all she can to ensure she is born beautiful.
