Eines Tages überrascht er Birger in Oslo und gesteht ihm, dass er unter Prostatakrebs leidet und ihn schon immer geliebt hat. Allmählich nähern sie sich wieder an, entdecken in Kunst, Musik und Natur gemeinsame Interessen und erleben eine späte, außergewöhnliche Liebe. Der norwegische Autor, in seiner Heimat geschätzt, ausgezeichnet und Liebling der Literaturkritik, erzählt wie in "Der Stand der Dinge" (Männerschwarm Verlag, 2010; hier nicht besprochen) eine wehmütige Liebesgeschichte, die dennoch Lebensfreude vermittelt. Ein schöner, feingeistiger und unsentimental erzählter Roman über spätes Glück, Krankheit und Verlust. Der Autor verdient auch hierzulande mehr Bekanntheit und wird im Hinblick auf die anstehende Buchmesse Neugierde wecken. Kaufen und empfehlen. Das Cover ist kein Hingucker.
