Uniform Title:
Trios piano, violin, cello op. 1 D minor
Content:
The Verbier Festival welcomes the Kavakos-Hagen-Hamelin trio for a performance of seminal works of the Romantic repertoire. Before Beethoven, piano trios were a relatively unimportant musical genre, but the first work on this program, his Trio for Piano and Strings No. 3 in C Minor, is proof of why that changed. Next comes Mendelssohn's four-movement Trio for Piano and Strings No. 1, composed in 1839 and performed for the first time in 1840, with Ferdinand David on the violin, Karl Wittmann on cello and the composer himself at the piano
